It’s been a while since I wrote a blog…
That’s because I have been focusing on all the big, shiny, life-changing property developments that I want to do. The problem with that? Those projects take a pile of effort and dedication, and for a variety of reasons some of them don’t pay off.
Blog writing has been one casualty of the past few months that has come from not focusing on the fundamentals of my business. There is no doubt that property sourcing and development can be a lucrative business, and in time those large, life changing projects are definitely on my radar. However, in order to gain the experience to make them work, I need to get the nuts and bolts of the business right – focus on helping investors make money through property, focus on networking and building the longer-term relationships that will help me build a sustainable and profitable business. These areas are where I need to keep my attention right now.
I’ve spent the last couple of days with one of the Directors of Sourced (one of the many reasons I went down the franchise route is the on the ground support these folks give), and it has helped me realise that I need to re-focus on the basics I’ve mentioned above. These are exciting times for the network, with the launch of our peer-to-peer lending platform, and by regaining my focus and not trying to cover every single aspect of property investment and development, and not going for the big deal every time, I will be much more successful in the long term.
Therefore, its back to focusing on sourcing for investors, and looking for smaller scale development and flip opportunities for me and my clients. I have one underway in Dunfermline already, with the likelihood of a second in Aberdeen in the near future; they’re not huge, but each step forward increases my experience and confidence so that when the right life-changing opportunity pops up I will be ready to meet the challenge.
